Juveniles allegedly try to start fire at medical center expansion site

Police turned over a 9-year-old and 10-year-old to their parents late Thursday after they allegedly tried to start fires at the construction site near Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin.

Officers responded to the 1000 block of First Drive NW around 10:55 p.m. Thursday after someone reported juveniles trying to start a fire in the area, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger. Officers found the 9- and 10-year-old at the construction site, with one of them carrying matches. The juveniles denied they were causing damage or starting fires, according to Krueger.

Krueger said police turned each juvenile over to the children’s parents.
