Riverland lose to Gustavus JV

The Riverland men’s basketball team dropped to 1-4 after being nipped by the Gustavus Adolphus JV 74-72 Friday night at Riverland.

The Blue Devils held as much as a six-point lead in the first half and went into halftime with a 36-35 lead. But in the second half, they couldn’t nail down the win.

“I thought our guys fought hard and made a lot of plays defensively to keep us in the game,” said head coach Derek Hahn. “We feel were much better than a 1-4 team, we’re just not finishing down the line.”

Riverland shot just around 50 percent from the free-throw line which didn’t help matters. They were 9-for-13 in the first half but made only one more free throw the rest of the way including a stretch towards the end where they went 1-for-5.

Deaionte Hudson led the Blue Devils with 21 points while Macrus Myers and Darius Bell each added 13 points.
