Hormel donation a big help for camp

The Y would like to thank Hormel Foods for its support and participation in the Hormel Cup for Camp Olson. Hormel’s corporate office and R & D personnel made a donation to the YMCA of Austin to help send kids ages 8-13 years old to Camp Olson.

This event was held on Saturday, March 2. The Challenge Cup is a fun and competitive event among the employees. As part of the competition, there was a fundraising raffle with 100 percent of the proceeds raised going directly to children in need around the area to attend Camp Olson YMCA. Congratulations to all teams for their superior efforts and thank you to YMCA and Camp Olson captains for all their hard work!

Kids who attend Camp Olson YMCA have the opportunity to go to camp that normally would not get this great experience. There are so many activities at camp: sailing, horseback riding, and canoeing, outdoor games, swimming in a lake, target sports, kayaking, craft shop, camp fires, skits and an overnight camping trip to Camp Olson’s privately owned chain of lakes called the Shurds.

The spirit of Camp Olson not only having fun activities it also includes mind, body and spirit to the experience: Song and laughter fills Camp Olson’s grounds during the day, with the peace and silent of the nights as the children see the wonders of the Milky Way. The kids get together to share in fun, fellowship, culture and spiritual growth: They learn to respect the environment, instilled all who go to camp through education and personal experience with nature.

Camp Olson is located in the Northwoods on 1,250 acres of forest near Longville, Minn. The shoreline is on five beautiful lakes. The waterfront consists of a boathouse, sand beach, and sauna. The camp also has beautiful cabins, central bath and shower facility.

The Hormel Challenge Cup has created this excitement by simply participating, donating time and money to this great event.

“I hope the YMCA and the wonderful employees of the Hormel Corporate Office will continue this great adventure that we have been doing for last 31 years!” Ruth Chamberlain said. “It has proven that Camp Olson YMCA gives a great deal to kids.”

Please feel free to call the YMCA and talk with the youth director about our scholarship program.

Thank you Hormel Corporate Office and R & D for your support for so many years!
