Austin man charged for terroristic threats

An Austin man who allegedly threatened a drive-by shooting several times on Saturday morning was charged Tuesday in Mower County Court.

Coniah Emmerson Horton, 27, faces one felony count of terroristic threats with reckless disregard.

Horton was arrested at about 4:55 a.m. Saturday after a woman allegedly told authorities Horton called her and threatened to do a drive-by shooting on her house in southwest Austin. According to the court complaint, Horton called the woman several times making the same threats. The report states that Horton’s girlfriend was inside and the two had been going through a difficult time. When the homeowner told Horton that her children were there, Horton allegedly said he didn’t care, according to the court complaint.

Police later found Horton at a home at the 2000 block of Fourth Avenue NE in Austin, where they allegedly tried to call his cell phone and coax him outside, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger. Krueger added that police set up a perimeter around the house, and Horton came out roughly two hours later and surrendered. Nobody was injured. Police did not find a weapon on Horton.

Horton’s next court appearance is set for April 19.
