Trip to Wisconsin, Michigan on deck

Sept. 6-11 we will be making our first fall trip, as we head to Mackinac Island in Michigan and Sturgeon Bay in the resort area of Door County, Wisconsin.

Door County has more miles of shoreline, lighthouses, and states parks than any other county in the United States.

We will ferry to Mackinac Island for a two night stay on the Island and visit the cherry region of Michigan before boarding the S.S. Badger Ferry for our return into Wisconsin and heading home.

We will depart at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday from Walmart and return about 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 11.

This past week was our yearly Mystery Trip. We motored to Iowa and showcased Waterloo. This town boasts many sites. A local step-on guide escorted us and highlighted  the John Deere Tractor Assembly and Engine Works, Dan Gable Wrestling Museum, and many of their outdoor parks and industries. The guide also pointed out the Isle Casino, which many of our travelers had visited.

We visited the Sullivan Museum which is named after the five local Sullivan brothers who perished when the U.S.S.Juneau sank during a battle in World War II. The interactive displays and two floors of exhibits was most interesting.

Our noon lunch stop, hinted at in our clue, “Where Paco was and what he was up to,” was where artist Paco Rosic recreated Sistine Chapel ceiling, done using over 2,500 Krylon spray cans. It was absolutely breathtaking. We also viewed a documentary film on Paco’s history and how he came about his vision. The entire curved dinning room ceiling is designed and truly a great work of art.

An elegant meal using mostly natural foods was tastefully served.
