Austin police officers have had their hands full with dog attacks this week.

After a pit bull attacked and killed a chihuahua at the new dog park on Sunday morning, police have received three more complaints about overly aggressive dogs in Austin.

An officer went to a home in southeast Austin after a couple reported that a pit bull cornered two people in between a stairway and a house, according to the report. While the report does not list any injuries, the owner of the pit bull, Jacob Redwing, 30, will be served with a potentially dangerous dog warning.

Officers responded to two dog attacks on Monday. In the first, at 11:24 a.m. in the 1800 block of Second Avenue SE, a young child accidentally opened a front door, and a boxer attacked a golden retriever. The 52-year-old woman walking the golden said the boxer attacked her golden as she crossed the homeowner’s driveway. No citations were issued, and the woman sustained minor scratches.

The second altercation on Monday happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. when a rottweiler allegedly attacked a smaller dog. Both dog owners were walking their dogs, which were leashed, when the incident allegedly happened. The rottweiler’s owner, Eric Uher, 27, said his dog did not attack the smaller dog but only pinned it and was trying to play. Uher was also served with a potentially dangerous dog warning.

A potentially dangerous dog warning means if a dog has one more incident, it will be deemed a dangerous dog and placed in the pound.

However, the owner of the pit bull that killed the chihuahua on Sunday, David Davenport, 42, was served with a dangerous dog citation. He will have 14 days to appeal the decision to the Austin City Council. If he loses an appeal or does not appeal, the dog will be euthanized. His pit bull is currently in the city pound.
