Couple allegedly beat cyclist over owed money

Saturday was a hectic day for one Austin man, who reportedly owed money to a couple and was chased, run off the road twice while on his bicycle and beaten.

Police arrested Willister and Tammy Davenport of Austin, 40 and 43, respectively, after they allegedly beat a man and tried to take his money. The alleged attack started when the Davenports saw the victim at Kwik Trip getting money from an ATM. The Davenports reportedly chased the victim with their vehicle while the victim was on a bike. The Davenports allegedly ran the victim off the road and fought with him two times. The first time, a bystander came out of his or her house and broke up the fight. However, the second time the victim fell, he caught his foot in his bicycle. The Davenports allegedly hit the victim in the face, kicked him in the chest and unsuccessfully tried to steal $400 from him.

Police later arrested the Davenports at their home. They were both charged Monday in Mower County Court with first-degree aggravated robbery, second-degree assault and third-degree assault with substantial bodily harm, all felonies.

The victim went to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin and was treated for a swollen eye, multiple bruises and lacerations.

The Davenports’ next court appearance is scheduled for June 14.
