Pretty fair Fair

Despite some obstacles, it was not a bad year for the Mower County Fair, a tribute to the hard work of the event’s organizers.

Fair week weather was a mixed bag: Cool temperatures which seemed almost a miracle after scorching weather just about all summer long. On the other hand, after months with almost no rain fair week brought several days of showers, some of them heavy. Weather, of course, is beyond human control. Quickly assembled bleacher sections were the work of the Fair Board, however, responding to a last-minute report that the grandstand was structurally unsound. If attendance at grandstand events was down, it was no doubt the rainy weather rather than the bleachers.

A final attendance number wasn’t available as this was written, but it was clear that with a good weekend the Fair would be able to record a successful year.

It’s always good to see a traditional Midwest event remain strong despite changing times.
