Missionary returns to Austin church

Dr. Claudio Divino will return to Austin Church of Christ to preach at 10 a.m. Sunday. Divino teaches missions and is vice president of academics at Crossroads College in Rochester, and will also talk about the college during 9 a.m. Bible school.

Divino is active in missions around the world. He has visited 30 countries, and preached and taught in 16. He was a minister in Brazil before coming to the U.S. The church he served there grew from 650 to 2,500 attendees in the 15 years he ministered there. In this country, he has ministered to a Portuguese speaking congregation in New York City.

“Dr. Divino has been here before and is an excellent speaker,” said Austin Church of Christ Pastor Stephen DeFor, who accompanied Divino on a mission trip to Zimbabwe in 2008.

This month the Austin church has been highlighting the various mission groups it supports, including Youth of Christ in Austin, SAT-7, the Sudan African Mission and Crossroads College. The congregation will be asked to make commitments to these missions on Sunday.

All are invited to participate in the worship service and to be challenged by Divino.
