Two injured in bike accidents over weekend

Two bicyclists were injured in separate accidents this weekend when they were both struck by cars.

According to the police reports, a 13-year-old boy was struck by a car at the intersection of Fourth St. and Ninth Ave. SW after 8 p.m. Saturday. The boy said he saw the car stopped at a stop sign, so he continued riding; however, the car moved forward and knocked the boy off the bike. The boy reportedly had minor cuts and road rash on his right leg and left arm and was treated by EMTs. The driver reportedly did not see the boy.

The second bicyclist, an 83-year-old woman, rode off the sidewalk and in front of a car on the 300 block of 12th Street SW on Sunday afternoon. She was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin with a head injury. According to the report, witnesses say there was no way the driver would have been able to stop in time.

No citations were issued in either accident.
