One person is in custody after he allegedly shot another man Tuesday night.
Police arrested Tyrone Price, 28, of Austin, after officers responded to a reported shooting at Whittier Place Townhomes, 414 Fourth St. SE, at about 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The victim, 38-year-old Tyrone Maddox, was taken to the Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger. Krueger said Maddox was airlifted to Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus in Rochester. Police did not have an update on Maddox’s condition Wednesday morning.
A witness, who asked not to be named, said he or she heard gunshots before police arrived.
“I said, ‘That was gunfire, wasn’t it?’” the witness said.
According to Krueger, witnesses reported a silver four-door car leaving the area shortly after the shooting. Officers recognized the car and arrested Price for first-degree assault in Northeast Austin. He was taken to the Mower County jail awaiting further charges.
The Austin medical center was placed on lockdown for more than an hour during the incident. It opened again at about 7:30 p.m.
Krueger said police were still investigating what happened and couldn’t reveal further details.
Austin police, the Mower County Sheriff’s Department and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are continuing the investigation.
