Bringing it all back home; Austin High homecoming underway

The court is set and Austin High School’s 2016 homecoming is underway.

AHS kicked off its 2016 homecoming week Sunday night with the powder puff football game at Wescott Athletic Complex.

The theme for this year is “Tackle the Tigers” as the Packers will face off against the Albert Lea Tigers in the homecoming football game at 7 p.m. on Friday.

The homecoming court was named on Friday, Sept. 30, and includes Kallie Bumgarner, Vy Hoang, Awenia Nywesh, Rebecca Younis, and Mary Willrodt for queen candidates, and Isaac Arnold, Jany Gash, Emilio Pitchford, Corbin Munger and Tanner Steene for king candidates.

Homecoming week theme days started Monday with Pajama Day. Tuesday will be Spam Day. Also, the battle of connects food drive will begin.

Wednesday will be Dress-Up Day, with coronation taking place at 2 p.m. in Knowlton Auditorium.

Battle of connects will be at noon on Thursday as part of Class Color Day.

The AHS distinguished alumni assembly will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Knowlton Auditorium. This year’s assembly will feature Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede, class of 1957, and David Hodge, class of 1966.

Friday is Scarlet and White Day with a pepfest at 2:30 p.m. and the homecoming parade starting at 3:30 p.m. The Parade Route is from First Avenue Northwest to Main Street, then to Fourth Avenue Northwest to Wescott Athletic Complex. The football game against Albert Lea will be at 7 p.m. at Hass Stadium.

Homecoming will come to a close on Saturday with the homecoming dance from 8:30 to 11 p.m. in Hastings Gym.
