Pacelli students to act like ‘Fools’ in a play

Pacelli students grades six through 12 this weekend will perform “Fools,” a comedic fable by American playwright Neil Simon. There will be a junior high performance at 2 p.m. Saturday, followed by a high school performance at 7 p.m. that day and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Barbara Kasel, who has served as assistant director with Pacelli plays for several years, said the two casts are a result of high student interest in getting involved.

“We had more kids try out than we expected,” Kasel said.

The play takes place in Kulyenchikov, Ukraine, in the late 19th century. A schoolteacher by the name of Leon Tolchinsky arrives in town to start a new job, but finds the town has been cursed with chronic stupidity for the past 200 years. He sets to work trying to break the curse.

Cameron Davis, who has directed performances with the Matchbox Children’s Theatre, is directing the play. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, or $15 per family.
