Shaun Michael Sloan, 37, of Stewartville was sentenced to 70 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud for felony second-degree drugs – possess 25 grams or more of cocaine or methamphetamine. He received credit for 227 days served.

He received an additional sentence of 90 days in jail for misdemeanor fourth-degree DWI – under the influence of a controlled substance; however, he received credit in time served for those 90 days.

Charges of felony first-degree drugs – sale of 17 grams or more of cocaine or methamphetamine – and misdemeanor DWI – operate motor vehicle – body contains any amount of schedule I/II drugs – not marijuana – were dismissed as part of a plea agreement reached on July 12, 2019.

Court documents state a Mower County deputy was on patrol in the early hours of Jan. 3, 2019, in Racine when he spotted a 2015 GMC Sierra parked near a building north of First Street Northeast. The deputy pulled up and saw Sloan sleeping in the driver’s seat. The deputy conducted a welfare check and saw that Sloan was breathing, He then checked the passenger side and spotted a butane can and a black pencil case that contained several plastic zip top bags, one of which appeared to contain methamphetamine.

When asked why he was parked at that location, Sloan said he was “just hanging out.” The deputy observed Sloan was slurring his speech and had red, watery eyes. Sloan was arrested after failing several field sobriety tests.

A search of Sloan’s vehicle turned up several plastic bags that contained a total of 45.97 grams of methamphetamine, a scale, and a methamphetamine pipe. The methamphetamine was packaged as if it was for sale.

Another methamphetamine pipe and $830 in cash were found on Sloan.

A review of Sloan’s criminal history shows prior convictions for theft, burglary, possession of stolen property, issuing dishonored checks, attempting to manufacture methamphetamine, domestic assault and violating a domestic abuse order for protection.
