A man accused of stabbing a woman with a kitchen knife after assaulting her made his first appearance on Monday in Mower County District Court.

Bolis Martin Macheik, also known as Bolis Martin Machdik, 25, of Austin has been charged with felony second-degree assault – dangerous weapon – and felony third-degree assault – substantial bodily harm.

According to the court complaint, police were dispatched at approximately 9:20 a.m. on May 16 to a stabbing in the 500 block of Fifth Avenue Northwest. An officer arrived and made contact with the victim (an adult female) and her husband.

The officer observed blood on the woman’s left forearm and saw she had a swollen left eye socket, swollen lips, and a swollen cheek. He photographed the woman’s injuries as they waited for an ambulance to arrive on scene.

The woman reported that she and Macheik got into an argument and that he assaulted her and then stabbed her with a kitchen knife.

She was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System – Austin, where her injuries were classified as substantial bodily harm (fractured orbital bone and lacerations to left forearm and left thigh).

Police made contact with Macheik and an adult female. The female told an officer that the Machiek and the victim had been fighting and Macheik was defending himself. She then said she no longer wished to talk about the incident.

Macheik told police he did not know what happened. He also said he broke his right hand earlier in the night and went to the hospital. He said he did not possess a knife and denied assaulting or stabbing anyone.

Macheik will appear in court again on May 28.
