Following a five-point weekend on the road in Cloquet, Bruins forward and Mercyhurst University commit Dante Sheriff has been named the Bauer NAHL Central Division First Star of the Week.

On Friday, Sheriff managed an assist during the Bruins 3-2 shootout loss to the Wilderness, but it was Saturday where the Ontario-native broke out while scoring two goals and adding two helpers.

Sheriff’s  production since the start of the season has been steady as he’s averaging well over a point per game with 31 points in 28 games played. Thanks to his five points on the weekend, Sheriff also became the Bruins leading scorer on the season.

“Dante was great this weekend and helped us get three big points in the standings. We’ve been telling him to shoot the puck more and he did on Saturday. We need him to keep doing that going forward,” said Bruins head coach Steve Howard.

The honor is the first of the season for Sheriff and the third of the year bestowed on an Austin Bruin following Connor Mylmok and Ben Almquist.
