Paid/On-call Firefighter

The City of Austin is accepting applications for the position of paid/on-call firefighters. This is emergency response/call-in firefighter work in the protection of life and property through fire fighting, emergency aid, fire prevention duties and maintaining fire department equipment and apparatus.

Minimum qualifications include: High school diploma or GED, valid state driver’s license and knowledge of driver safety and first aid.

Employment is contingent upon the satisfactory results of physical fitness testing and written examination (both conducted on Saturday, September 21, 2019) and a background investigation. The City of Austin will provide the necessary training in the operation of fire suppression and other emergency equipment.  Successful candidates must also be able to respond from their residence to the fire station within 10-minutes.

Starting wage is $9.90/hr. then $14.40/hr. after initial training period. Also includes a retirement pension through the Relief Association (see website for additional information).
