Letter: A step toward a safer community

The Minnesota house will be voting on a bill (HF 1500) which would give all residents of Minnesota the right to legally drive in our state, regardless of immigration status.

As Austin’s Mayor, and a former law enforcement officer, I believe we would be a safer community and state if this legislation is passed. As a result, more drivers will know the laws, will be properly trained to drive, and of course have insurance.

This law is supported by law enforcement and has produced lower insurance rates in other states.

We know that people are going to drive if licenses are not legally available. This is in the best interest of all for everyone to be trained and licensed to do so.
