Everybody loves a good story and if it can help the world around us, all the better.

From 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, the Jay C. Hormel Nature center will host its first ever Climate Generation Workshop. The goal of the workshop is to empower individuals to openly engage in solutions to climate change within their communities.

Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy was founded by Minnesota adventurer and environmentalist Will Steger.

In Saturday’s workshop, people will be invited to submit their own climate story and how it impacts their lives or drives their own efforts for change.

“Climate change is here, whether people want to address it or not,” said Julie Champlain of the nature center, who attempted a similar workshop last year. “You actually participate. Your voice, your story will go in a collection of stories that will be put out on the Climate Generation website.”

The workshop brings the challenge directly to the people themselves, giving them a chance to see the effects of climate change on a more localized scale.

“Sometimes you don’t relate to polar bears, but you can relate to trees dying here,” Champlain said. “When it happens in your own backyard and your own state, it makes more of an impact. It may inspire you to take action.”

The workshop is free and open to the public. People are asked to RSVP by Friday. Refreshments will be served.
