Stomp over to Paramount

Austin is one of 12 stops for the Rhythmic Circus Holiday Shuffle tour through Minnesota this holiday season.

What is Rhythmic Circus?

Take creative “Stomp”-style tap dancers and a sassy live brass band then get them all jacked up on too many cups of coffee and you get the high-energy ensemble. The musicians and dancers of Rhythmic Circus decided to join forces after crossing paths backstage during an Amateur Talent Competition at the Minnesota State Fair in 2007.

Hailing from Minneapolis, Rhythmic Circus is an internationally renowned, 12-member live music and tap dance phenomenon that will present “Holiday Shuffle” at the Paramount Theatre at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2. Expect a rapid-fire combination of dancing, humor and music, all wrapped within a bundle of positive messages. Tickets are available now at austinareaarts.org for $15 advance and $20 the day of show.

It seems to be a rare occurrence where family can enjoy an evening together, with children of all ages laughing and stomping their feet alongside each other. Rhythmic Circus provides that atmosphere and entertainment.

Notable national performances include the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., an extended off-Broadway run at New York City’s premier nonprofit performing arts theater — New Victory Theater, and an appearance on the American reality television series America’s Got Talent. Rhythmic Circus also performed their signature folding chair percussion routine as a TEDxPaloAlto Talk in 2017.

This season’s tour of Rhythmic Circus: Holiday Shuffle has been made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. Without grant support, tickets for the show would cost $60 each.

Rhythmic Circus dancers will also conduct a free Master Dance class for ages 12 and over at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Paramount.

Learn the joy of making rhythm with your feet at this high-energy class. Space is limited to 25 dancers. There is no cost but due to limited space, registration is required at www.austinareaarts.org.
