Molly Kate Kestner to perform at ArtWorks Festival; Will be replacing injured Charlie Parr

Austin native Molly Kate Kestner, who rose to national fame when her song “His Daughter” went viral in 2014, will return to her hometown to close the Austin ArtWorks Festival outdoor stage at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26.

Kestner agreed to perform as a last-minute replacement for country blues musician Charlie Parr, who is unable to play his guitar after injuring his shoulder earlier this month.

In addition to Kestner, the outdoor stage, located off Second Avenue and First Street Northeast, will feature Gaelynn Lea, winner of National Public Radio’s 2016 “Tiny Desk” contest, the Austin Symphony Orchestra, R&B soulsters Funktion Junction, Twin Cities-based GLBTA Freedom Jazz, Americana quartet The Tinder Box, Wicked Renegades and Ventura Highway.

There will be an acoustic stage in the Paramount Annex and an acoustic stage at the ArtWorks Center.

Whalen and the Willows and friends will be jamming in the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 25, in the alley behind Dusty’s Bar.

Puddles Pity Party will celebrate the life of Dick Schindler at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Paramount Theatre. Advance tickets are $25 thanks to support from Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin. The reserved seating show is 70 percent sold out at press time.
