Two Austin High School students were detained by Austin police on Friday after allegedly making terroristic threats against the school on social media.

The threats, it was found, proved to “not be credible” and were not intended to be carried out, said Superintendent of Schools David Krenz.

Austin Police Chief Brian Krieger said one of the students was taken to the Many Rivers Juvenile Detention Center in Rochester while the other student was released to the care of their grandmother.

He did not know Friday afternoon if charges would be brought against the juveniles.

The students were not identified, due to the school’s data privacy policy.

“We are grateful that our students felt comfortable enough to come to us” when they saw the threat on social media Friday, said Krenz.

“And, we want people to know that this was acted upon immediately — we took the threat very seriously.”
