Get to Know: Austin senior Sydney Marsh

Sydney Marsh is a senior on the Austin girls track and field team and she is also a two-time Minnesota Class AA state track and field meet qualifier in the pole vault.

Q: What sports do you compete in?

A: Soccer and track and field.

Q: How did you originally get into soccer?

A: My parents put me in YMCA soccer when I was five years old.

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?

A: In soccer, it was scoring my first varsity goal off a corner as an eighth grader. In track, I made it to state in pole vault in my sophomore year.

Q: What have you learned from sports?

A: The importance of teamwork and pushing yourself, and how to manage my time.

Q: What is the hardest part about soccer?

A: Coming to terms with the fact that this is my final season and thinking about how much I am going to miss playing with my team.

Q: Who is your biggest sports role model and why?

A: I have always looked up to the entire U.S. women’s national team, not only for their exceptional playing abilities on the field but also in their fight for equal pay off the field.

Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?

A: My favorite movie is Star Wars and my favorite TV show is Psych.

Q: What is your favorite subject in school?

A: Math and science.

Q: What is your dream job?

A: Orthopedic surgeon/prosthesis.

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Coffee chip ice cream.

Q: What are your plans after high school?

A: Attend a four-year university, possibly at University of Minnesota-Duluth or Carleton College to major in the pre med field. I would possibly like to continue with pole vault as well.

Q: What are your top three pump songs before a big game?

A: “Lose yourself” by Eminem, “Remember the Name” by Fort Minor, “Work Hard Play Hard” by Wiz Khalifa.

Q: What are your favorite guilty pleasure songs?

A: “Despactio” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yanke, feat. Justin Bieber.
