HAYFIELD — The Hayfield football team will look to a new leader this season and he’s hoping he can get the Vikings to focus on fundamentals.

Adam Schroeder, who was an assistant coach for the Vikings over the past few years, has moved into the head coaching position this year. He’s fortunate to have a large group of seniors at his disposal and he wants his team to play consistent.

“I want to have everybody know they’re responsibility and do what they’re supposed to do,” Schroeder said. “I have high expectations.”

Hayfield senior Sutton Schultz said the team has quickly adjusted to him being moved to the head varsity coach.

“He’s a really fun guy and he wants to be here every day,” Schultz said. “It wasn’t hard to adjust because he was already part of the program.”

Hayfield senior Dom Dublin said that Schroeder has been there for all the tips and pointers the team could ask for so far.

“I like that he’s always involved with us,” Dublin said.

While he enjoys coaching up the players and preparing them for the upcoming season, Schroeder is learning that’s a lot more that comes with being a head coach. He has many responsibilities that go beyond winning games.

“I’m realizing how much behind the scene stuff goes into this,” Schroeder said. “It’s not just X’s and O’s, you have to organize guys and get them in the weight room. It’s an interesting change.”
