The Austin boys golf team had a solid outing in its home opener, but it wasn’t quite enough as it lost 322-334 to Northfield in Austin Country Club Monday.

Senior James Snee shot a 77 to earn meet medalist for the Packers and he was the only Austin golfer to shoot below an 80.

“It’s nice to see James put up a good score,” Austin head coach Matt Raso said. “He hit the ball pretty well today.”

Raso said Austin’s score was one of the better scores they’ve had in the last three years, but he’d like the Packers to raise the bar even more and aim for improvement.

“I’m not real disappointed with that, but I have some guys with a lot of experience and I think a number of them left some strokes out there,” Raso said. “I think they’re capable of better. Five of those guys have the game to shoot in the 70s.”

Austin scoring: James Snee, 77; Ethan Morey, 84; Jace Greenman, 86; Noah Bawek, 87; Matt Neumann, 89; Ryan Kempen, 93
