Best Bets: Austin setting up for laughs and song

Get ready for a celebrity to visit Austin and help out the Austin Police Department at the same time this weekend. With the Austin Police Officer’s Association Country Music Show featuring “The Voice” season seven winner, a comedy night with several comedian performances, an outdoorsman guitarist and more, there are tons of things to do this weekend.

1. Adam Wayne

6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Historic Paramount Theatre

Adam Wayne, who will perform at the Historic Paramount Theatre, is and outdoorsman and entrepreneur, and also picks a flat-top guitar and writes unique songs born of the Minnesota woods. He has a zest for performing and is passionate about developing his music career. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, $5 for students 7 and under; $2 off for senior citizens and AACA members.

2. Queen of Angels Church Rummage and Bake Sale

8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, Queen of Angels

Come rummage through treasures and eat great baked treats at this sale, which will last Thursday through Saturday. The sale runs Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

4. Comedy Night

7:30-9:30 p.m. on Friday, Historic Paramount Theatre

This event will be emcee’d by Chris Anderson, with comedians Jeff Pfoser, Mike Lester, and Jeff Larson performing. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door and are available at the Austin ArWorks Center, online at www.austinareaarts.org, or by calling the Box Office at 507-434-0934.

5. Fall Gala Vendor and Craft Show

10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday, Freedom Event Center

6. TEDX, “Ideas Worth Sharing”

1:30-4 p.m. on Saturday, Riverland Community College

The theme for this year’s event is “Brain Food” with speakers Dr. Adenuga Atewologun, Catherine Haslag, Marc Anderson, Austin McCoy, and Eric Olson. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. with the event to start at 2 p.m. Tickets are $7 and are available now at the Austin Public Library and online through the Austin Area Commission for the Arts. 7. Austin Police Officer’s Association Country Music Show

7-9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Knowlton Auditorium, Austin High School

This year’s show will feature “The Voice” seventh season winner Craig Wayne Boyd, with special guest Van Lears. The proceeds are used for youth and community organizations throughout Mower County.
