Questions remain in case of skeletal remains found on I-90

ALBERT LEA — There has been very little development with the case involving human skeletal remains found in April off of Interstate 90.

Freeborn County Sheriff Kurt Freitag said a DNA profile revealed no matches to others in a nationwide database.
The case is inactive until further information surfaces, Freitag said.
The remains were found to be of a male and were found near a fence along the south side of eastbound Interstate 90, about a half a mile east of Minnesota Highway 13.
A property owner went out to remove garbage near the interstate fence when he saw what appeared to be a human skull. He called 911.
The sheriff previously stated the remains appeared to have been there for at least a couple of years. Authorities also discovered shoes, deteriorated clothing and a ring.
The remains were taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the probable cause of death. The cause of death still hasn’t been determined, Freitag said.
A dental exam has been conducted, and the Sheriff’s Office has yet to receive the report from the forensic anthropologist.
Freitag doesn’t expect any breaking information from the case.
