Five players scored their first varsity goal for the Austin boys soccer team as the Packers rolled past Fairmont (0-3 overall) 11-0 in their season opener on the road Tuesday.

Austin junior Kory Potach made a big splash on the same night he scored his first goal as he ended the up with three goals. Austin’s Matias Parada, Ojulu Cham, Tucker Nelson and Nick Young all scored their first goal in the win for the Packers (1-0 overall).

“We had a number of guys get their first goal in their first varsity playing time. We have different guys stepping up,” Austin head coach Jens Levisen said. “I wanted them to come out and play hard. It was a good team effort. Now we’ve got some things to work on.”

The Packers fired off 38 shots in the win. Ochan Ochogi scored once and Sean Baker had two goals.

Levisen wasn’t expecting the Packers to win by such a lop-sided score, but he was pleased with his team’s effort.

“I didn’t really know what to expect going into it,” Levisen said. “We knew it was a longer road trip and a hot bus ride. The guys got that first goal to kind of set the tone. We kind of had a little bit of a lull and then we were able to start connecting on passes.”
