Best Bets: Rounding out the Mower County Fair

Enjoy this weekend with the last few days of the Mower County Free Fair and some great music on Sunday. With bull riding, tractors and lots of cars, there’s sure to be tons of fun this weekend.

1. Mower County Free Fair

All Day, Thursday-Sunday, Mower County Fairgrounds

Finish this year’s Mower County Free Fair this weekend, with free admission to adventures including fair food, Midway rides, grandstand events, entertainment, animals of all kinds, equestrian competitions, horticultural exhibits, arts and crafts displays, educational opportunities and more. The Mower County Historical Society buildings will also be open and free to visit. For more information, call 507-433-1868.

7:30 p.m. Thursday, Mower County Fairgrounds Grandstand

Come listen to this great artist sing at the grandstand.

3. NTPA Tractor Pull

7 p.m. Friday, Mower County Fairgrounds Grandstand

Watch tractors as they pull as much weight as they can across the grandstand grounds.

4. Veteran’s Memorial Car Show

11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Lafayette Park

This show is sponsored by the Cedar River Rats Car Club. Registration fees are $10 and will support the local veteran memorial pavers, and show proceeds will be donated to the Austin Area Foundation. Registration is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the show is from 1 to 4 p.m. The program will include an opening and closing ceremony with a 21-gun salute, awards for the top 25 cars, a silent auction, dog-tags to the first 150 registered cars, children’s games, a bounce house and climbing wall provided by the National Guard, food and live music. 5. Classic Car Show

12-4 p.m. Saturday, Mower County Fairgrounds

Come see classic cars at the fairgrounds. With different years, makes and models, there’s sure to be something to catch everyone’s fancy.

6. Great Frontier Bull Riding

7 p.m. Saturday, Mower County Fairgrounds Grandstand

Watch cowboys hold on to their hats as they try to best the bull. With lots of excitement and bull riding, audience members are sure to have a blast.

7. Worship at the Fair

10:15-11:30 a.m. Sunday, Mower County Fairgrounds – Fair Square Stage

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church will host its annual “Worship at the Fair” at the Fair Square Stage at the Mower County Fairgrounds. The musical guest will include the gospel bluegrass band Glory Bound from St. Paul. The service begins at 10:30 a.m. with music starting at 10:15 a.m. In case of rain, the service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1600 W. Oakland Ave in Austin. The public is invited.

8. Masters of Disasters Demo Derby

2 p.m. Sunday, Mower County Fairgrounds Grandstand

Cars created to crush the opponent will battle one another in the grandstand grounds. Get ready to cry out for your favorite car.

9. Beer and braids at the Edge Salon

All day, Monday, The Edge Salon

The Edge Salon is holding a daddy and daughter beer and braids night. This event will bring in dads and daughters for a fun time. The event will show dads the basics of ponytails, braids, buns, plus much more throughout the evening.
