Bailey Mueller

Activities/Hobbies: I am an active member in Student Council, National Honor Society, DECA, Youth Leadership, and Link Crew. I also played tennis in the fall of my four years of high school. Music is very important to me and I have had the honor of being a part of Austinaires this school year.

Awards/recognitions: I earned the Spotlight on Scholarship and Big Nine Academic Honor Roll awards this fall for maintaining greater than a 3.6 GPA while participating in tennis. I have also participated in solo and ensemble contests for both vocal and band and have earned numerous superior ratings and a “Best in Site” award in 2015. Although no longer an active Girl Scout, I earned the Bronze Award in 2009 and the Silver Award in 2012. Because of my involvement in service organizations, I have acquired more than 120 hours of community service and will graduate with a “scarlet cord” in June. Lastly, I was the 2015 Access Scholarship first place recipient.

Thoughts on education so far: I was blessed to have been touched by extraordinary educators at both the Austin Catholic Schools and the Austin Public Schools during my 13 years of schooling. It has been individual teachers who have made a lasting difference on not only my education but my character development as well. Austin Public Schools have proved to challenge me in a classroom setting in addition to aiding in my self-discovery. Without Austin’s music program I would have never discovered my love for performing and without all of the student organizations I would not be the leader I am today. Through my educational experience I have also discovered future career possibilities. The mentorship program has paired me with a mentor at Hormel for my last semester of high school. This is something I am hoping will help me determine what I would like to obtain a college degree in.

Plans for the future: In the fall of 2015, I will be attending the University of Wisconsin — Eau Claire to pursue an undecided business major.

Thoughts about the Rotary Club: Being the Rotary Student of the Month was a great opportunity to meet community members who I would not necessarily had the honor to meet otherwise. It was great getting to converse with Rotarians each week that come from different backgrounds and hold individual responsibilities throughout the community. Thank you to the Rotary Club for providing me with the opportunity to come to your meetings during March and for the amazing food!

Awards/ Recognition: In swimming I received the All Conference, All Conference Academic, All State, School Record Holder, Bud Higgins Outstanding Athlete award, and was the captain. In DECA I received the International Qualifier, and in cross country I was the captain and received the All Conference Academic. I also received the AP Scholar award.

Thoughts on education so far: I have really enjoyed my time at Austin High School. I have grown up a lot since ninth-grade in both height and academically. As high school has progressed I have gained a lot of confidence. The most important thing I have gained from my education thus far is the many friendships that I have built throughout the years.

Plans for the future: I plan on attending Iowa State University to study something in the field of science.

Thoughts on Rotary Club: Rotary has been a great experience. I am so glad that I have had this wonderful opportunity to meet the generous, kind and diverse group that makes up the Rotary Club. I will miss not being able to meet new people on Mondays and hear amazing stories about them. I would like to thank the Rotary Club for this great experience.
