Fire burns thousands of acres in northern Minnesota forest

WARROAD — Fire crews have the upper hand on a fire that has burned thousands of acres in a northern Minnesota styate forest.

The Palsburg Fire in Beltrami Island State Forest is considered 80 percent contained as of late Sunday morning, according to the Minnesota Incident Command System.

Cooler, wetter weather in the coming week is allowing firefighters to be released.

The Star Tribune reports while two ground crews will remain on duty, firefighting from the air has been called off.

Fire crews spent part of Saturday tending to hot spots in the forest, located about 15 miles south of Warroad.
