An Austin teen has died and another was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a rollover accident on Saturday night in Waseca County.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports Helayna Nguyen, 19, died Sunday morning at North Memorial Medical Center in Minneapolis from injuries sustained in the crash.

The 17-year-old driver of a 2001 Mazda Tribute was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital-St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester for serious injuries. Her status was unknown as of press time.

According to the state patrol, the vehicle was westbound on Highway 14 when it went into the ditch at about 11:25 p.m. Saturday and crashed near milepost 162.

The state patrol reports Nguyen wasn’t wearing her seatbelt, but the driver was.

Road conditions were wet at the time. Alcohol was not involved in the crash.
