Winter making a comeback

It’s only the third official day of spring, but winter isn’t ready to bid farewell just yet.

Sleet and snow moved into the area Sunday, and the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning, which was slated the last through 4 a.m. Monday. Some spots could see 1 to 3 inches of snow, while higher amounts of 3 to 8 inches are expected in some areas, according to the weather service.

The weather service says the heaviest snow will fall in narrow bands, so snowfall totals could vary greatly over just a few miles.

The heaviest snow is expected between 7 p.m. tonight and 1 a.m. Monday, with some ice also expected.

The snow should taper off by 4 a.m. Monday.

After recent springlike weather, the coming work week looks to be cool and drab. Highs will only reach the lower to mid-4os, and rain or a mix of rain and snow are possible every day through Friday.

Next weekend could offer a modest warmup, as highs are expected to warm back up into the 50s.
