The Austin Bruins are ready to go pink again for a good cause.

As the team has since forming five years ago, the Bruins will host Paint the Rink Pink at 7:05 p.m Saturday to raise funds to battle cancer in Riverside Arena.

Besides a game between the Bruins and Minnesota Magicians, fans will get a chance to see the Bruins’ players put on some skits, and there will be a jersey auction after the game.

Since the Bruins have a lot of new players this year, it’ll be a new experience for most of the team to wear pink jerseys and play on pink ice. Head coach Chris Tok said he hasn’t had to tell his team too much about the night in advance, but he feels his players will be ready for what is coming up.

“I think our leaders have done a really good job and hearing everybody in the community talk about it, I’m sure they have a good understanding of the magnitude of this event,” Tok said.

The entire town of Austin has rallied around Paint the Rink Pink in recent years. AHS teams have held held their own fundraisers and the entire town of Austin has embraced this time of year as Paint the Town Pink, a time to raise funds to fight cancer.

“I think it’s awesome,” Tok said. “Any time you can make something better and more people jump behind it shows how many other people care about the cause. Everybody putting in their support towards one cause is a great thing.”

As far as the season goes, the Bruins would like to pick up a win against the Magicians Saturday. Austin is currently just two points out of first place behind Minot in the NAHL Central.

“You get a full house, so you definitely want to win,” Tok said. “I think also when people are happy, they might donate a little more money. We’re not going to put pressure on the guys, but I think deep down inside they know it’s a big one.”
