The United Way of Mower County and a large group of Hormel Foods interns and employees continued a volunteer tradition Wednesday.

The UWMC and Hormel employees worked on a Day of Caring project at the Mower County Historical Society in advance of Day of Caring.

“It’s a great way to connect a group with the community and provide a geat service,” said Diane Baker, UWMC executive director.

Day of Caring is an annual volunteer day in Mower County each fall. Yet for the third year, with the help of some eager individuals at Hormel, good deeds are coming early for the Mower County Historical Society.

About 60 interns and employees cleaned up all but two buildings at the historical society over two and a half hours.

“I got the sense that the interns had a great time,” Baker said.

Baker would like to see the United Way can grow this event moving forward.

“I hope we can continue to do things like this and expand with other groups that continue like this,” she said.
