Hayfield baseball team rallies past Triton

The Hayfield baseball team had to overcome a late rally to outlast Triton (0-1 overall) by a score of 8-6 in it season opener in Hayfield Thursday.

The Vikings (1-0 overall) led 5-0 early on, but the Cobras took a 6-5 lead in the sixth to put the pressure back on Hayfield. The Vikings tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Cam Rutledge and JB Stackhouse and Drew Streightiff added RBI doubles to give the Vikings their lead back.

Streightiff pitched five scoreless innings, but Rutledge, who had four RBIs, picked up the win in relief.

“Drew threw five fantastic innings and then we had a bad six inning and all of the sudden they had the lead,” Hayfield head coach Kasey Krekling said.
