Music listening team wins regionals

Austin High School’s team of Kristin Carlson, Ethan Johnson and Matthew Tylutki won Region 8 of the Minnesota High School Music Listening Contest this year at Mankato and is now headed to the state contest at Augsburg College on Feb. 7. Each team of three students is asked to study more than 55 musical selections from the Early Music period of the 1300s to music of the past century. Students identify the piece and the composer after listening to 4-30 seconds of a particular selection. They are also asked specific questions about composers, their music, as well as general musical history questions.

This is the second year in a row that this team has won their region and continued to the state competition.
