Riverland Career day to welcome 1,000 visitors

Nearly 1,000 regional high school juniors, high school counselors and teachers are registered to visit Riverland Community College’s Austin Campus Wednesday to participate in the annual Career Day/College Fair.

At Career Day, business professionals from the region present informational seminars regarding career options. Career categories include: accounting; artists; auto; business management and human resources; child care services; construction trades; computers; criminal justice; cosmetology; counseling; education; engineering; health care; landscaping and horticulture; lawyer and paralegal; machining and maintenance mechanics/industrial maintenance; military; performing arts; sports coaching, athletic training and fitness; diesel mechanics and truck driving; fire/EMT; translating/interpreting/Spanish; veterinarian and vet tech.

This year’s special session is “Paying for College Without Drowning in Debt.” Co-presenters for the special session will be Jayne Dinse, director of financial aid at South Central College and Steve Bowron, Riverland dean for institutional advancement.

The College Fair features  more than 90 college representatives from public and private institutions. Colleges from Minnesota, Iowa and other U.S. locales attend.
