Roy Hope, a gospel singer, will perform at the Brownsdale Methodist Church, at 10:30 a.m. July 7.

Hope has done many performances around the country, and Brownsdale Church is looking forward to the event. His last visit to the church was in September.

“I’ve been hearing him sing for 52 years,” said Ida Foster, of the Brownsdale Methodist Church. “He’s a good singer, and he’s got a good message.”

According to Foster, Hope sings a country-style gospel genre, accompanied by prerecorded background music. Hope has performed more than 6,000 times in the past 40 years, including tours throughout United States, Norway, and the western provinces of Canada. He does his concerts free of charge, and usually performs in churches and community centers.

“He travels all over and brings people in,” Foster said. “He strengthens our community.”

Currently, Hope lives with his wife in Sinai, where he grew up. They have four children and seven grandchildren living in Minneapolis.

In fact, Hope is expected to bring two of his teenage grandchildren, Cassidy and Lauren, to sing with him.

“They sing like their grandpa,” Foster said.

The concert is open to the entire community free of charge, however free will donations will be collected.
