A Minnesota developer plans to move ahead on a stalled plan to add up to 96 housing units in northwest Austin.

Developer Mick Montag will work with ProGrowth Bank of Gaylord, Minn., at the Fox Pointe Addition to potentially add the units, including single-family homes, townhomes, and assisted living and memory care homes. ProGrowth bought the land after the housing market crash of 2007, when original developer Cottage Homesteads of America was forced to abandon the development near The Village Co-op and Murphy Creek Townhomes.

The city of Austin’s planning commission reviewed and gave its blessing during a commission meeting Tuesday to Montag’s concepts for the site north of the old Kmart building, provided the developer follows a few guidelines.

The planning commission reviewed Montag’s plans but decided to follow city staff recommendations to keep 23rd Avenue Northwest in the proposal, which developers initially hoped to build around.

Montag said developers would conduct a community housing study to see whether the current proposal would be financially sound. Once the study is done, developers will proceed with preliminary plans.
