Wrestling: BP’s Grunklee and GMLOK’s Roe advance to state with Section titles

Two area wrestlers advanced to the state meet Saturday.

GMLOK’s Lucas Roe earned a repeat trip to the Class ‘AA’ state meet when he pinned Jacob Swindell of Caledonia-HSG in the second period of the 152-pound finals in the Section 1AA meet in Rochester.

Roe, a senior who is 38-2, had a 1-0 win over Andrew Bigelow of Kasson-Mantorville in the semifinals.

In Blue Earth, Blooming Prairie senior Jarrod Grunklee earned his second straight trip to state at 285 pounds when he won a Section 1A title with a technical fall and a pin. Grunklee is now 18-4 on the season.

GMLOK Sophomore Wyatt Richardson had to settle for third as he lost a state-qualifying ‘true second’ match 8-2 to Greg Johnson of LARP at 182.

Connor Nelson finished third for Hayfield at 152 in Class ‘A’ but he didn’t get a chance at ‘true second’ match.
