The Minnesota Association of School Administrators has named Austin Public Schools Superintendent David Krenz an administrator of excellence.

Krenz will be honored for his leadership, concern for students and active involvement in professional and community affairs at a statewide recognition ceremony at the MASA/MASE Spring Conference March 14-15 at Minneapolis Marriott Northwest in Brooklyn Park.

“I personally don’t work for honors; I work hard for the kids,” Krenz said, adding it was the first such award he had received from MASA. “It was nice to be recognized.”

Krenz was cited for his ability to lead important changes in the educational system. He has served as superintendent in Austin since 2009, working to provide the best possible educational programs for students. He has successfully implemented the year round school calendar, the Baldrige Model for Educational System Improvement and, at his previous district in La Crescent, the QComp program.

Krenz attributed the district’s success to its staff and also to the parents involved in their children’s education.

“Over the years, my philosophy has been that it’s the people around you that really make the organization,” he said. “That really is key.”

Krenz will attend the recognition ceremony in mid-March.

An active MASA member for more than 10 years, Krenz now serves on the MASA Board of Directors. He represented MASA in the Minnesota Department of Education’s Principal Evaluation Work Committee and during the Principal Evaluation Model Development. Krenz also served as mentor to several MASA members in their first years of superintendency. He holds a bachelor’s degree in education, and a master’s degree in educational administration from Winona State University.
