An Austin teen was airlifted by the Mayo 1 helicopter Saturday after he crashed a stolen vehicle into a tree near Hormel.

Officers and medical personnel went to Hormel Parkway where the accident happened at 12:17 a.m. Saturday. The driver, a 17-year-old, was traveling very fast before the car jumped a curb and struck a tree on its driver’s side. The teen may be cited for DWI, open bottle, no driver’s license and stolen vehicle. The extent of his injuries was not listed.

The owner of the car told police he or she lent the car to the suspect, who did not return it. The report has been forwarded to the city attorney’s office, and charges are pending a blood test.
