Hormel gives UW $258K

The checks keep rolling in for the United Way of Mower County.

The Hormel Corporate Office presented the local united way with a check for $258,321 on Friday afternoon. That amount shatters Hormel Corporate’s 2011 campaign of $238,861 and the $244,000 goal it set for this year’s drive.

“Our local workforce continues to amaze and inspire us with their generosity,” said Mandi Lighthizer-Schmidt, United Way Mower County executive director. “Hormel Foods has always been a great community supporter. Hormel’s campaign team of Jen Moriarty, Max Faust and Steve Borgerding did an amazing job.”

United Way of Mower County is in the midst of its annual fundraising campaign. Last year it raised more than $1.03 million for essential services in the community. The 2012 goal is $1.10 million. Several weeks ago, Hormel Foods Corp. Austin plant employees gave $142,262 to the campaign; employees at Quality Pork Producers Inc. raised $137, 774, and Austin Packaging pitched in with $5,000 as well.
