Continuing its focus on helping to fight hunger, Hormel Foods gave $29,250 to a regional food bank late last month to support the backpack program in public schools. The gift, one of many the company has made this year to fight hunger, came at the end of a year when more Minnesotans than ever have had to take advantage of food shelves or other food subsidies — or have just gone hungry.

Although seldom discussed, hunger is a major problem in Minnesota and in Mower county. Although it touches people of all ages, hunger is a problem that can be solved through coordinated efforts, including those that provide financial support.
