An Austin man arrested last week after he allegedly tried to pass two counterfeit bills at a local bank has been charged in Mower County Court.

Omobolaji Oluwaseun Oyesanya, 35, of Austin, was charged Friday with gross misdemeanor passing of counterfeit currency. According to the court complaint, Oyesanya withdrew $1,000 in $100 bills from the bank, which were passed through a currency counter before given to him.

Oyesanya then went to another area of the bank, returned to the teller and said he withdrew too much money. Oyesanya allegedly tried to deposit two $100 bills and five $20 bills; however, the currency counter detected the $100 bills were counterfeit. The complaint adds Oyesanya then left the building, went to a white van and returned to the building, where police later arrested him.
