After an extended foot chase shortly before midnight Tuesday, Austin police arrested a man they say had active warrants.

An officer saw Ronald Johnson, 37, shortly before midnight, and turned around to confront him. However, Johnson allegedly took off on foot from the 500 block of 11th Avenue Southwest. The officer later received assistance from another officer and a tip from a neighbor. The officers, with the use of flashlights and a Flir heat signature camera, found Johnson hiding under a vehicle. Johnson then allegedly fled again and was later found hiding in a hedge row. When Johnson attempted to flee a third time, officers shocked him with a Taser and arrested him. The police report adds Johnson possessed a schedule III painkiller, as well. During the arrest, a woman who allegedly knows Johnson tried to get something from him. Officers told the woman to stay away several times until she flicked a lit cigarette at one of the officers. The 24-year-old woman was also arrested for obstructing the legal process and disorderly conduct.

The report was forwarded to the Mower County Attorney’s Office for formal charges.

Several months ago, Johnson was charged for second-degree domestic assault with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault, two counts of terroristic threats and fifth-degree assault.

Police arrested Johnson at the 1000 block of Eighth Avenue Southwest after he allegedly threatened to hurt a girl. According to the court complaint, the girl called a friend to get her as Johnson was violent and wielding a knife and broke some of her belongings.
