OWATONNA — The Austin boys cross country team took fifth and the Packer girls team took fourth at the Big Nine meet in Owatonna Tuesday.

Austin freshman Madison Overby couldn’t quite defend her Big Nine title as she took second and finished just over a second behind Monson.

“Chrissy had a nice little kick like she always does and Madison couldn’t quite catch her,” Austin head coach Tony Einertson said.

Overby earned all Big Nine honors and so did Austin senior Haley Splinter, who finished in third place.

The Packer boys were led by Mason Wollersheim, who took seventh and made the All-Big Nine team and Andrew Baker, who took ninth and made the All-Big Nine team.

“The boys taking fifth is a big, big surprise,” Einertson said. “I wasn’t expecting it, but when you’ve got to guys in the top ten, it helps your score a lot.”

The Albert Lea girls and the Owatonna boys won the Big Nine meet.
