Dick Trimble

Richard “Dick” E. Trimble, age 84 of Austin, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System- Austin.

Richard “Dick” Eugene Trimble was born March 18, 1928, at Oak Ridge Cottage in Clear Lake, Iowa to Gerald and Dorothy (Baker) Trimble.

The Trimble family settled in Austin in 1936. Dick began his working life as a newspaper carrier for the Austin Daily Herald and remembered delivering newspapers during the Armistice Day blizzard on Nov. 11, 1940. At the age of 15, he began doing auto body repairs in his parent’s garage.

Dick entered the US Marine Corps in 1946 and served in Pearl Harbor, China, and Guam. Upon his honorable discharge in 1948, he returned to Austin.

Dick was employed at Park Motors doing auto body repairs and various other auto repairs and delivered milk for Sheedy Bros. Dairy. On Oct. 25, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marlys Brekke at the St. Olaf parsonage. In 1952, along with his brother Harold, Dick opened a DX service station on 10th Drive SE. Shortly after, they moved their business a block south to a larger building and began selling motorcycles. In 1962, they moved to the current location of Trimble’s Cycle Center.

Dick enjoyed all types of motor racing; he loved his street rods, and was always a big fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His sense of humor and quick wit will be missed and remembered by many.

Survivors include his loving wife: Marlys; Sons: Gary (Denniece}, Jeff (Debbie), Scott; Daughters: Debra (Stanley) Iverson, Kathy (David) Bjorge, Cheryl (Steve) Greenman; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; Brother: Harold (Darlene) Trimble; Sisters: Juliene (Loren) Renz, Geraldine (Robert) Wolf; Sister-in-Law: Lillie Trimble; nieces and nephews; life-long friend Jack Sershen.

He is preceded in death by his parents Gerald & Dorothy Trimble, infant sister Charlene, nephew Ralph Trimble, brother David Trimble.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend Kristi Koppel officiating. Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m.

at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church one hour before the service on Tuesday. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by Austin Post #91 American Legion and Olaf B. Damm Post #1216 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorials are preferred to St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Mayo Clinic Health System Austin Medical Foundation or the donor’s choice.

Casket bearers include Matthew Peterson, Justin Peterson, Bryan Trimble, Brad Trimble, Peter Greenman, Jacob Greenman, Andrew Greenman, Cameron Trimble, Brandon Fodness, and Jerry Fodness.

Honorary casket bearers include Amy Duffy, Katie Bissen, Sarah Mecklenburg, and Betsy Trimble.
