Future of Lansing Corners to be discussed

The future of the Lansing Corners property may become a bit clearer Tuesday.

Tom Miller, owner of the former Supper Club, is set to appear before the Mower County Board of Commissioners Tuesday to discuss a tax abatement of the property. According to county records, $36,837.24 in unpaid taxes is owed on the property dating back to 2007.

Lansing Corners has been vacant since Ron and Karen Valentine closed the restaurant in 2008, citing health reasons and the economy. Lansing corners originally opened in 1938 as a gas station and diner. The Valentines purchased the property from Lee and Donna Robbins in 1996 and later added the banquet room in 1999.

Also at the board meeting, Public Health Director Margene Gunderson is set to discuss the county’s health rankings released last week.

Mower County improved by one point to rank 42 out of 85 Minnesota counties surveyed in health outcomes like low birth weight and premature deaths, but dropped from 60 to 51 in health factors like smoking, obesity and excessive drinking.
